When there was still a lot of work to do for my thesis, I was looking forward to making plans for the future. I always knew that after graduation, I would not sit down and spend the rest of my life without pursuing new goals. Instead, there would be new ambitions, new fascinations, and new energy to keep growing. But sometimes, these things come quicker than you would have imagined. Hence, there are already some objectives I want to achieve before the end of 2014.
This blog will help me remember my aims and hopefully encourage as well. Not only me, but also others, through interaction with people who also pursue goals or are thinking of setting them. It would be great if you, the reader, would contribute to this website by sharing personal experiences, tips, and struggles. We all know that things are not always going as they should be. I have a strong belief that it can help to share these experiences and learn from each other.
Before 2015, I at least want to achieve one or more of the following goals:
- understand and speak French and German, of which I learned the basics in highschool
- understand (and speak) at least one new language, preferably Spanish
- learn programming languages, starting with Python, to build an interactive and multi-language dictionary
- learn to play a song on the bass guitar
- finish a manuscript, walk the road to a novel
I’ve already written the first blog posts for some of these goals. You can check them by clicking the links below:
On 1 january 2015, I will present my achievements (or failures) in a blog. Until then, every now and then a new blog will be posted about the progress I make. Hopefully, you will be with me during this adventure and maybe even set goals for yourself as well. Feel free to share your personal goals and ambitions in the comment section below.

You’ll have this done by March. What about the rest of the year? 😉
Seriously though, this is a lot of interesting stuff. I would also like to learn Python but haven’t a clue where to start. Where are you going to be learning from?
Martin, you should check the courses on http://www.learncodethehardway.com. It helped me to get started and understand the basics.
You can read more about my programming endeavors in the following post: http://www.bascinations.com/tech/time-to-get-started-with-python
